Podcast 8:19 Steel City Ruck Club- Kristi Devenyi & Jason Prindle

The Steel City Ruck Club is a PA-based GORUCK affiliated rucking group.  The simple definition of rucking is moving with weight on your back. For more information on GORUCK, including their gear and events, go to:

https://www.goruck.com/what-we-do/

We interviewed Kristi Devenyi and Jason Prindle.

Kristi (in her own words): I’m a kettlebell trainer and kettlebell sport competitor based out of Pittsburgh Kettlebell & Performance. My journey with GORUCK started because I love the team based aspect of the events and the training is a blast!

Jason (in his own words): I consider myself a try anything kind of athlete, as long as I’m competing, even if it is just against myself. I grew up on football and lifting as my first serious endeavors. In college I discovered rugby and it consumed my fitness life for 15 years. After recovering from major knee surgery I fell into rucking which brought me back to my love for physical challenges. I started when rucking was pretty new to the nonmilitary world and got my ass kicked in my first event and fell in love with GORUCK events.

Schützhund– translates to “protection dog.”  FitLabPGH talked with Drew Zihmer about the sport of Schützhund and his German Shepherd, MaverickMaverick was also profiled in the FitLabPGH Features released 12/20/18.

Some of the Schützhund commands:

    • Platz (rhymes with lots) – lay down
    • Sitz (like sits) – sit
    • Aus (rhymes with house) – let go / drop it
    • Hupp (rhymes with up) – Jump / go over

There are 3 levels of Schützhund: IPO1-3, which is now IGP1-3 (and we still refer to as Schutzhund or SchH1-3)

The 3 phases of Schutzhund are Tracking, Obedience, and Protection – 100 points per phase, for a total 300 possible points

Dumbbell weights – Schutzhund 1 uses 650 grams (1.4 lb), Schutzhund 2 uses 1kg (2.2 lb) and Schutzhund 3 uses 2kg (4.4 lb)
