FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 46:22 National Hiking Day Safety Tips

Labrador Lesson for 11-17-22:

Safety tips for National Hiking Day.

As Labradors, we don’t need an excuse like #nationalhikingday to get outside for a walk/hike/run…but because it IS National Hiking Day, here are 3 tips to help keep your 4-legged friends safe when you take us for a hike. 1) Keep us on a leash so that we don’t eat anything or chase anything that might hurt us. 2) Don’t overwork us. We get it. Temps are cooler; you’re ready to crush it! But take time to condition us for longer hikes. 3) Check our paws before and after hikes for signs of wear or injuries.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, get outside and get moving. Don’t wait for next year’s National Hiking Day to #takeahike

FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 45:22 Ask Permission Before Approaching an Unknown Dog

Labrador Lesson for 11-10-22:

Ask permission before approaching an unknown dog.

As Labradors, we are friendly, energetic dogs, and because we’re also cute, we’re accustomed to humans and other dogs wanting to approach us when we’re out and about. We request that you please ask our humans before reaching out to touch (or sniff) us. This is for your safety as well as ours. If a stranger startles one of us, we might react with a growl…or worse…

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, it’s a good idea to get permission before approaching an unknown dog. Dogs might be leash aggressive…or in training…or afraid of strangers. Asking permission before approaching the dog helps to keep everyone safe.

FitLabPGH Lab Lessons 44:22 Don’t Let Weather Discourage Your Movement

Labrador Lesson for 11-3-22:

Don’t let weather discourage you from movement.

As Labradors, we love to get outside for a walk/jog in ANY weather. Granted, we prefer cold, snowy days to hot, humid days, but overall, we just like to get out and move. We understand certain humans are more particular about their weather preferences, but we suggest you look beyond the weather and commit to year-round movement…especially if you have dogs. Tired dogs are happy, healthy dogs, so unless your dog loves the treadmill, get prepared to get outside year-round.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, get prepared to make movement part of your lifestyle year-round. Pick up the proper gear, then move more, and keep moving, no matter the weather.

Labrador Lesson for 10-20-22:

The Labs once again asked Ben to be their spokesperson to tell you a dog is a part of your family. Check out the video, or just read their wise words.

You don’t need technology to move.

As Labradors, we make movement part of our lifestyle. All we need for our daily walks are collars, leashes, and a willing human. We understand that you humans love technology, but technology is NOT essential for movement. As Labs, we don’t have Strava accounts, and we don’t track our macros in MyFitnessPal or LoseIt. But we DO move on a regular basis and eat high-quality food.

Whether you have 2 legs or 4, remember you don’t need technology to move. If you like to track (and share) your movement sessions and your food log, that’s great, but if you’d rather keep your movement sessions to yourself, that’s great too. And if you experience a technical glitch, and your movement session isn’t recorded by Strava…it still counts!!! So move more. Move often. And remember, you don’t need technology to make movement part of your lifestyle.
